The Original Colour Lithograph was designed by Hans Bendix in 1947 and Published for the Danish Allied Committee. This wonderful Poster illustrates happy young people riding their bicycles in Copenhagen.

The bicycle epitomises Denmark and is the symbol of its national identity. A series of tourism posters were produced specifically targeting British tourists during the late 1940s. The British, like the Danes were hooked on cycling and with World War II over, the Danes were hoping to encourage British tourists to consider Denmark as a holiday destination.

Hans Bendix studied painting in Paris, London and Copenhagen and made his introduction at the Artists Autumn exhibition in Copenhagen in 1922. He created illustrations for Social-Demokraten during the 1920’s to the 1950’s and is best remembered for his tourism and political posters. His characteristic light and suggestive style often featuring elegant young women with long legs revealing his passion for French culture.
